History of Steampunk

Steampunk first became popular in the late 1980's when people merged the idea of science fiction with the Victorian time period. The subculture brings back the concept of steampowered machinery to our modern society. The Steampunk culture is based around the idea of modern technology being created much earlier than it was. Using this theory, people started creating music, clothing, and groups that reflected these unique ideas.

For many steampunk followers, the "punk" aspect of the subculture promotes breaking away from normal society. This is a culture where the "unwanted" can come together through the common interest of steampunk and feel like they belong.

Steampunk was first introduced to the world through books like Morlock Night and The Anubis Gate. These books created a different kind of world where machines and humans go hand in hand. People loved these ideas and thus the subculture "Steampunk" was born.

Steampunk was spread through hierarchical diffusion through a group of people who were interested in science and historical fiction.

Throughout the last 41 years more and more and more people have adopted the steampunk lifestyle. Enthusisists have created blogs and videos where they can share their beliefs and show off their style. A few of those include steamingenious.com and daily-steampunk.com

Today steampunkers connect through social media to share their thoughts and ideas. They hold gatherings across the globe to meet fellow followers and show off their intricatly designed outfits.
